Buying a used skid steer can be a difficult decision, with all the skid steer makes and models to choose from, so I want to give you some things to think about to help you make a informed choice.
What Skid Steer brand is best? That depends on who you talk to, However, I have been selling used skid steers for a living for a very long time, so I know a little something on the subject. There is no best brand, and this is why, one person will claim that Bobcat is the best skid steer, because they have been around the longest and it is easy to find parts and get service, another person will claim Caterpillar is the best skid steer loader, because it so easy to operate them, because they have joystick controls. The next person will claim Case skid steers are best because they are so reliable and they last so long, with little repair expense. All these skid steer claims are fact, and yet we still have not decided which used skid steer to buy.
Best Used Skid Steer is a personal preference!
There is no best used skid steer brand, However, there are some skid steer brands that are better than others depending on what your needs are.
Bobcat usually comes with hand and foot controls, some people prefer this type of skid steer control. Some Bobcat skid steers do have hand controls, but they are rare.
All Caterpillar skid steers come with joystick controls, a child could operate them with ease, if it was safe for a child to operate a skid steer, which it is not.
Some people prefer hand controls, and some people prefer, hand and foot controls.
I can use both types with ease, as can most people with just a little practice, it is what you get accustomed to using that decides what you prefer.
There are some skid steer brands that I like the best, such as, Bobcat, Caterpillar, Case, New Holland, John Deere, Takeuchi, Komatsu, there are others I like, because they are good skid steers for the cost, such as Volvo, Thomas, Gehl, Mustang.
Their are some used skid steers that I would stay away from, such as, Raccoon, and others, because you cannot get parts.
Stick to Name Brand Used Skid Steers! If you have heard of the used skid steer brand, and others you know have also heard of the skid steer brand, it most likely has been around for a while, and is a wise choice, the more used skid steer loaders in this brand you see being pulled down the road on a trailer, the better.
